Rhumb Line is ONE YEAR OLD!

Rhumb Line –

An arc crossing all meridians of longitude at the same angle.

One of the three lines that can be drawn between any two points on the earths surface.

All 32 points on the compass.

The quickest way home.

My Rhumb Line!!!

I know that dogs always grow into their names, but this is so freakishly her, in so many ways… Maybe she whispered her name into my ear when I first met her at four weeks of age, maybe she told me in her own little charming way.

She is wild, destructive, a one dog wrecking ball, so incredibly full of life, opinionated, scampy, funny, and talented on her own terms. She is an incredibly hard worker, no matter the task. She is not a dog for a person who is built like a house of cards, this I know.

And she is my eye gazer. Deep and luxurious gazing into your eyes, and you can feel it in your chest.

We have videos of her first year, doing a bit of this or that, from the first day with us all the through to this past week. RHUMB LINE

Today we took her to the lake for the first time with The Boyz for a birthday celebration.

Everyone had so much fun! It was perfect, and now we have the napping house.

This area is a dry pond off of the main lake, but will be about six feet deep with water in about a week or so… a 1/2 mile across and the dogs loved running on the soft earth! The lake itself is something like 35,180+ acres. Its pretty huge…

Story was giving ‘mouth to mouth’ to something, and we weren’t quite sure what it was at first.

8

Last seasons kill off when the water dried up. For a ‘puppy birthday bash’ this was pretty much the ultimate pirate booty… They all thought this was amazingly cool.

First time in big water and she LOVED it, every minute. We stayed in the shallow area since it was her first time running amok in a big lake. She has a harness and drag line on because she is still very much a runner, and I trust 100% that she will take off at mock speed without that reminder right now. So we develop as a Team as she develops and I learn more about her.

20

Cold, windy, and a perfect Montana morning, an entire end of a lake to ourselves! My dream morning.

17

She had so much stinking fun and was at her normal FULL SPEED SELF.

15

Drying off is something all of my dogs like, they will run to their towels when we are done.

LOVE…

So Happy Birthday dear one, I love you to the moon and back. You are my perfect package, in one cute wrapper! And Happy Birthday to your siblings – Elvis, Camas, Blue, Kip, and Mick.

My adopted BC was named READE when we first met. I changed his name to MAGIC…talk about growing into your name! He is the canine psychologist…so good in assessing and working with strange dogs…I am in awe of his abilities and intuition. Magic’s Dad.

Mmmm….dogs growing into their names. When I first met the Border collie who would be named “Magic” at his foster-mom’s, his name was, “Reade,” Several weeks out of a “picked-up-as-a-stray” situation in Quincy, IL, it was love at first sight for me. Focused, intuitive, empathic, level-headed…the canine psychologist for canines…just MAGIC! Everyone who has met Magic, remembers him. And he just gets better. Thank you for a fun, informational, and thought-provoking blog. Tom and MAGIC.
