Yay! It looks like Old Man Winter isn’t going to ditch us like he did last year! I swear he was relaxing in Tahiti last December, because we had pretty much the most ‘non winter’ season I can ever remember.
But today, finally, it’s snowing, and snowing, and snowing! Big beautiful heavy flakes. From my office window it looks like I’m sitting in a giant snow globe.
My dogs and I are drip drying as I type away, Franny might even be snoring. After a couple of hours outside, we’re all feeling pretty winter happy!
I’m still learning how to use my new camera. With the snow, the dim light, and motion, I had some good challenges. Because my dogs are gorgeous in motion I am still trying to figure out how to take quick multiple photos one right after the other. Any help would be great!
I can always count on $eeker to stick his tongue straight out and hold it for me. We call it the “Eddy Murphy, I gots some ice cream, I gots some ice cream…” If you are my age and were into SNL way back when, you know what I’m talking about!
My happy snow boy! His Highland nature comes out when the weather is stormy in anyway. He never wants to come in!

My gorgeous Franny. I love when she tilts her head up and lets the snow fall on her face. It has to feel as good as it looks when I watch her do this.

Doll, what “mode” are you shooting your pictures in? Auto or P or AV or ??? Play with the different modes. I don’t remember if that camera’s Sport mode will do multiple rapid fire shots or not…check the manual that was in the box. As for dealing with the lower light, ISO speed, differing AV exposures or TV. It is all in the exposure time which I too am still learning….I “think” there may even be a “snow” setting on there too but not sure (too many cameras with too many different settings).
Sherry I had it on the sports mode because of all of the movement with the dogs and snow and wind. I don’t know what ISO is, is that on the menu button? The snow setting I tried and it all came out looking like ‘snow pudding’. The clearest of the bunch was definitely sports mode. I tried the ‘multiple photo’ button but it clicked to slowly. My dogs were past me before the second one went off. Do you know what the ‘IS mode’ continuous is? That was another choice on the menu but I couldn’t get it to open.
ok, I messed with some of them take another look. I also looked up the ISO and I need to invest time in that function.
IS is Image Stabilization….want that on all the time when doing handheld photos. Sport mode will set the ISO automatically…basically all of those modes that have icons vs alphabet don’t allow you to set the ISO (which is the same as the film speeds – remember film? You’d get 200 film if you were shooting in great light and nothing much moving, and go up from there for movement to low light) but unless you use P, AV, TV, M on the dial you won’t get to set that. Dig the manual back out to see where to set the continuous mode. Hey I just found mine on my big camera. Sounds like I should come down (or you come up) and we have a camera fun day! Think about it.
Nancy, I play with the different settings, there are so many variables with movement, light and distance. When I am doing pictures for TKD, I use Sport mode and multiple picture setting. I did a one hour photo shoot and came out with 1,400 pictures. Make sure you have a stabilizer setting as well, so that the picture doesn’t pick up your natural shake. Have fun and I am sooo looking forward to seeing more pictures. I remember when Bronte and Katie would jump up into the snow drift, be gone for a bit and then come breaking thru the bottom….wanting to jump right back in.
thanks Teri, this is a new camera with way more functions than I know what to do with. I am so excited to learn more… I LOVE taking photos of my kids, garden and dogs so this will be a nice new hobby for me!

Love the dogs in the snow. We don’t have that here in Portland…just lots and lots of rain.
I love the rain, pretty much always. But winters in Montana are pretty awesome if we get good snow. We have waited three years for this gorgeous powdery stuff!
