BORDER FARM
Well it is that time of year where we think we have prepared ourselves, and then all of a sudden Montana goes from sleepy to rocket speed over night. The race into a short an awesome season where literally everything in Montana happens in 89 days or so. Ready, Set, Go!
We are getting lots of early season big projects knocked out each week which feels great, and to fill in the spaces we are bottle feeding 4 times per day right now, we have three more Mama’s due to kid this month, seeding, planting, fencing, and cheese making!
A massive thank you to our Farm Volunteers, Interns, and Apprentice work/trade people. You all are like sunshine and come ready to work each day. We have so enjoyed having you all with us this spring!
Our final class to add this year will be The Art of Fermented Dairy-Natural Cheese Making, Kefir, Puddings. None of the products we make are foods you would be able to find commercially – these are small batch, old world style of preservation that keeps dairy wild and free. Incredible flavors, healthful to the gut, unique, from techniques that use to be common and are now almost lost.
Our amazing kefir is the foundation for almost all of our cheeses and old world products. So stay tuned!

KIDS – fun fact!
I finally got a good photo of them! When kids are born their hooves are covered in what is called GOLDEN SLIPPERS or FAIRY SLIPPERS. It is a gel/rubbery like deciduous hoof capsule. It protects the uterus from damage, and the mama goat usually chews them off within hours after birth. This is natures way of protecting the mama through pregnancy and birthing.
