BORDER FARM
Our goats have not read the book on How To Be A Goat.
With so much information, and so many good resources, our goats are individuals – likes and dislikes, individual eating patterns, gestational this and that, and where and when they liked to be handled in anyway. Individuals.
As a farmer it is up to me to get to know my goats and really spend time understanding each one. After all, my dairy goats live between 11-15 years, so it is a long relationship.
For example, we have one goat that bloats every year when she hits 2-3 months into the gestation mark. It is so reliable we now look for it and are on top of it at first light, and she is fine by evening. What happens during this time in gestation that would cause that? Not sure, but we know we get two perfect doelings each year, no bucklings. Here are the changes the fetus is making –
Day 56–63: Nostrils open.
Day 60: Fetus is 4 inches (100 mm) long; eyes, eyelids, and nostrils are identifiable.
Day 77–84: Horn pits begin to form (in horned breeds).
Day 90: Fetus reaches 10 inches (250 mm) in length; growth varies significantly by breed.
I have said all of that to tell you this – if you have animals you need to have great observational skills, get to know your animals, and understand their predilections and/or preferences. And unless they have read the book on who they are suppose to be, this is all on you. You are their voice in the human world and they are counting on you.
BAUERNBROT – FARMERS BREAD
I always try a new recipe as is, all the ingredients and rules, taste test and then decide if I like it as as, or move on to modifying how it works best with my style in my kitchen. This recipe seems a bit complicated, but it is not. The aromatics and flavor are incredible and would remind you of bread from southern Germany. SO DELICIOUS!
SATURDAY FARM MARKET – We will be at the Fairgrounds Farm Market this Saturday from 9-12pm – Kefir, Duck Eggs, Shrub, and our lovely Tea Blends! See you all there, it is a great time of year to support your local farms and ranches!

PAWS & PEOPLE
Our Classes and programs are set up in a way to be progressive, meaning you progress your skills and your dogs understanding as you go forward. While we do have some Teams that do a one-and-done class or session and I never see them again, the majority of our Teams work through – puppyhood, adolescent stages, and into young adulthood before they move on to their bigger goals and adventures. A solid foundation, an understanding of working together, dealing with the harder days, building good management – it is the consistency game!
No short cuts, no dumbing down information or skills, not convenient, lifestyle changing, a total time suck, a truck load of effort – and one of the best ways to start this chapter in your life with your dog.
If you are looking for sugar coated whatever, I am not your Trainer. If you really want to learn, have fun, do the work, and have an adult dog one day that is a reflection of everything good, what you have learned, know, and do together, I am that Trainer.
TRAINING
MARCH Puppy/Adolescent Class – 11am
MARCH Adult Specialty Class – 11am
We are scheduling February thru June right now. If you are interested in group classes, phone appointments, Coaching, or more – please consider registering in advance.
If you would like to work with us, we would like to work with you and your dog!
