BORDER FARM
DNRC Seeds & Seedlings – If you are looking for native and bulk purchases, this is a once a year sale. A great way to plant pastures and/or wind breaks. The first year on our farm we planted just under 200 trees and bushes, this program made it affordable, and we’ve only lost six of the trees to vole damage, everything else is thriving. The DNRC has opened up their Seed Sale, and on the 21st of January their bulk Seedling Sale begins at 8am. Psst – they sell out in hours.

PAWS & PEOPLE
Definition – Ovarian Remanent Syndrome (ORS) – Behavior and hormone levels consistent with a bitch or queen in heat (proestrus or estrus) despite the fact that the animal has had an ovariohysterectomy (been spayed).
In my work I actually see this a few times a year. It is really striking and obvious to me what is happening, but most of the time the owners are only seeing behavioral issues within the home or with other dogs. In short the owners have what they think is a spay female, when what they really have is a spay female that is still producing hormones and having heat cycles, they just can no longer reproduce.
I love intact females, but with this comes – cyclical moods, behavioral shifts, inconsistent behavior, and sometimes aggression towards other known or unknown female dogs.
I do agree with the following article that it is more common in the ‘Queens’. And I would add that Queens, whether they are intact, ORS, or truly spay – rarely if ever do they accept other unknown female dogs. As nature has intended.
Some clients opt for surgery to remove the hormonal tissue, and other clients just live with intact female behavior. It is something to research and read about so you make the decision that is correct for your female dog – ARTICLE
