gestures of kindness, they count

Every morning, for 20 years, I wake up with a cup of coffee next to the bed. I don’t have to ask, I don’t have to prod, I don’t have to beg. It is just there.

It is my husbands unspoken gesture of kindness.

There are some mornings where it is impossible for me to coordinate my eyes, arms, and lips, and so I lay there and just smell the kindness, and sometimes that is all I need.

But it is unspoken, and I think therein lays the power of the gesture.

Our lives can get busy and going in many directions in our home. We have work, school, children, dogs, a huge garden, life, just life, lots of life. And sometimes my ‘honey do list’ turns into a ‘goddamit get it done now list’, and still, I wake up to a cup of kindness. Perspective.

It is this act that always reminds me that the small almost unnoticeable gestures, are most of the time the most important.

This morning I was thinking about our dogs, and what we do for them and they do for us that is so subtle, only we would notice, and only we would feel the kindness. The small gestures, the tiny acts, the meaningful moments. And we have lots.

They are the unspoken moments, the moments where we do for each other something that is kind, and simple.

There are so many ways to show our gratitude, our love, or just kindness, and sometimes it is the best way to connect with another living beings heart, in the most honest way possible.
