Like Candy for a Working Dog

Working dogs like to work, NOT, not work. Sounds obvious, buts it’s overlooked so often. If you pretend your dog is just a pet, he will remind you he is a working dog!

It doesn’t take force, pain, or discomfort to get a working dog working, they are bred to do it. What it takes is a plan, the desire to work together, and room to fly (that’s the best part in my opinion)!

Most working dogs can solve concepts and out reason most people I know. Knowing this will keep a handler honest and humble, and hopefully respectful of their partner.

Access to work is like candy for a working dog. Truly that’s all it takes.

So here is to all of the people who are living with the Ferrari of dogs in their living rooms. They need kind and considerate care, and an experienced and knowledgeable handler… and one that is willing to go along for the ride!

Have fun, Nancy

The first picture I love, reminding me of my ‘Spotty’ when she too gives that wonderful smile. Spotty is a Welsh Border Collie same colouring. happy, contented dogs.

Story, the B&W border collie is from Scottish lines, the Ross line to be exact.

This is sooo true! When Shelby (my GSD) did her herding instinct test, I could NOT believe how addicting it was to her! I don’t think I’ve ever seen her have that much fun in her life. She transformed into a completely different dog. It was a different experience for her then just running around the backyard, playing fetch or going to obedience class. This was like she had suddenly found a purpose. It was incredible. I’m so happy I gave her the opportunity to really shine, and I can’t wait to see where she goes with it!

I think its so cool to actually see a dog do what it was bred to due, I agree, it’s a whole different side of them. For me, it’s always humbling to see my dogs power both mentally and physically and to realize how amazing they are and how FORGIVING they are of me when I make mistakes!
